The 22-year-old boy had inherited a chicken butcher’s shop from his father in a village in Syria. He was happy to carry on this activity but needed certain equipment. The RestarT (Restart to Remain) project provided him with a refrigerator and a generator which were essential for him to carry on his small business.
Jamil is a 22-year-old boy with a degree from the Applied Industries Institute. Born in the city of Homs, Syria, he now lives with his mother and sister in Al Battar, a village in the coastal area of the Tartus region.
After his father died, Jamil took charge of his family, becoming their sole point of reference. It was a big responsibility for such a young boy, yet Jamil worked hard in the chicken butcher shop he had inherited from his father; from helper he had now become the manager. But his commitment was not enough. He needed support to be able to keep going and not abandon his father’s business.
The RestarT team looked at his situation. He was a promising young man, his business was essential for the family’s livelihood, and the butcher’s shop had what it takes to become profitable.
Because of these prerequisites, Jamil was able to receive support from the AMU RestarT (Restart to Remain) project, which provides capital goods to people who decide to stay in Syria and help rebuild the country after the war. Jamil already owned the shop and the equipment, he just needed a refrigerator to store the chickens and a generator to allow the refrigerator to run even during power outages, which are frequent and can last a long time in Syria.
Jamil enjoys an excellent reputation. His shop is clean, and his chickens are genuine and fresh. The prospects for a successful business are all positive. He intends to improve his small business by acquiring new skills. Since RestarT provided him with a refrigerator and generator, sales have increased. He said he is very satisfied with this small success and expressed a wish: to be able to distribute chickens to families most in need. An important gesture of reciprocity to give back to the community the support he has himself has received.
