The 2023 UN Water Conference is scheduled to take place in New York from March 22 to 24. A global event where the world comes together to raise awareness of the water crisis affecting our planet and to decide on a common action to achieve the internationally agreed goals on water.
Drinking water is a human right, for everyone. According to UN data, however, in 2020 two billion people did not have safe access to the use of drinking water. The climate and environmental emergency increases the “water problem”: between 2010 and 2019 at least 1.4 billion people were affected by drought, and 1.6 billion by floods. These data impose the urgency of a sustainable use of water resources.
AMU and New Humanity have decided to organize an event entitled “Water: source of life and development” . The online event will take place on March 25th from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM and will be held in Italian with simultaneous translation into English, French and Portuguese.

AMU and the commitment to water
For more than 10 years, AMU has been supporting actions for the provision of drinking water in several villages in the province of Ruyigi, Burundi, in collaboration with its local counterpart, CASOBU (Cadre Associatif des solidaires du Burundi).
The Water source of life and development project currently aims to extend the existing network to all the communities in the area and in the hills of Nombe, Nyarunazi and Kigamba/Rubaragaza. The construction, maintenance of the infrastructure and water management directly involve the population and local authorities, as always happens in AMU projects. Dialogue and empowerment are in fact fundamental elements to generate real growth, accompanied by full respect for local realities. In parallel with the construction work, AMU is also involved in training in hygiene, prevention and management of the common good.
