Encouraging news has come to us from Damascus : thirty-two students, who were taught various subjects such as mathematics, Arabic, English, French, physics and chemistry, have passed their exams for the ninth grade of the primary cycle of instruction (more or less our elementary and middle schools). Now they will be able to move on to High school (which corresponds more or less to our secondary schools). There are, instead, thirty-three “baccalaureate” students, that is, those who have passed their exams for the last year of High school (high schools) thus obtaining the certificate to enter university.
Being able to concentrate, overcome initial limits, persevere and not give up until reaching the goal is not easy for anyone. Even less so for children who grew up (and many were born) in a war scenario, who have seen the conditions of their families and their land deteriorate over the years. The clashes, the economic situation, the limitations of various types (such as having electricity only at certain times of the day), the limitations of the Coronavirus, are all factors that hinder the educational and training path of Syrian children. Yet, the children of Damascus did not give up, they were accompanied on their path by the teachers and after-school operators of the Semi di Sperana program in Syria and they managed to achieve their goals. And we are sure, this will only be the beginning!
Damascus, boys promoted despite everything
The children of the Seeds of Hope Project after-school programs in Syria have achieved excellent academic results despite the difficulties around them.
