Mira lives in Syria. She has always been an introverted, shy, sensitive child. An only child, much loved by her parents, she had language problems in the pronunciation of some letters and many difficulties in social relationships. Being around other children, communicating with them, was difficult for her. When her parents perceived the existence of these problems, they did not hesitate and turned to the Generation of Hope Center , one of the structures supported in Syria by the Seeds of Hope program .
The Generation of Hope Center is located in the city of Homs and provides educational support to 150 children. Here, little Mira has changed: her voice, which previously had a very low tone, has become clearer and her pronunciation of letters has also improved. It was certainly a tiring and slow journey, but the results were clearly visible. Marlen, the teacher who followed her, made her understand that she is a child loved by everyone and that her classmates wanted to be her friends . To break the barrier of shyness and fear that Mira put between herself and others, the child had to be taught to have confidence in herself and in others.
And that’s what happened little by little.
During lessons or outside in the garden during recess, Mira was accepted by the school community. The work of integration was continuous and tireless. Under the expert guidance of the center’s educators , her many fears crumbled . Her mother says: “Mira has changed, she has become more sociable”.
It was a success the day she overcame her shyness and entered the classroom alone, without wanting to be accompanied. A success for her, for her parents and for the educators of the Generation of Hope Center.
