The chief regent of Serekolia village, Sandu Kumara, is clear about the benefits of having a new middle school for the children of his community: “We are very happy because AMU has thought of us, who live in this extreme corner of the world. Having a new school is a great joy, our children will be able to enjoy education.”
“We have almost nothing to give,” adds Sandu Kumara, but this is not the case. The community of Serekolia has offered essential elements for the construction of the school, namely work, collaboration, commitment. “We have sand and stones, these are the materials that are here,” and with these materials the men of Serekolia have participated in the construction of the new school building since the beginning of the work .
The new school here was a dream.
Chairs and desks, drinking water, toilets: Morifindugu Junior Secondary School now has a new look. Finah Marah, head of the women of Serekolia, is aware of the great change and emphasizes the future: “All of us women are satisfied with this wonderful opportunity for our children, who will be the leaders of the community of tomorrow. And we want to give our contribution”. The new school, in fact, will also have a significant impact on the future of the community.
And it is a thought that many in Serekolia have, that of the future of young students. Another of the village leaders, Ballah Marah, also underlines it: “The new school is very positive for all of us, because it will really help our children and all future generations. We also appreciate the well, our community really needed drinking water, we solved a big problem. AMU has helped us here on earth, but even when we are in heaven what you have achieved will continue to give us smiles because even the generations yet to be born will be able to enjoy these changes”.
