Syria, Seeds of Hope office renovated

The cracks in the walls left by the earthquake were an open wound in the Aleppo office. Now the premises have been renovated and made safe. But the work of our Syrian team has never stopped

“Coming into the office every day and finding these cracks on the walls, seeing the signs of destruction around us, was a pain that was added to all the other challenges that we Syrians experience.”

Syria, Seeds of Hope office renovated

The earthquake that devastated Syria and Turkey on the night between 5 and 6 February 2023 did not spare the premises in Aleppo where the Semi di Speranza team works.

Those cracks that clearly stood out on the walls were there to remind one of an open wound, under the eyes of those who have never seen it. stopped making efforts to ensure that support reaches the many people made even more vulnerable by the earthquake as soon as possible.

The women and men of our office in Syria have always continued to work, even in such difficult conditions: “The material damage has been very great, but also the psychological suffering experienced by all of us”.

Renovating the office was therefore a necessary step, an essential piece to regain theSyria, Seeds of Hope office renovated sense of the future: “It gave all of us a renewed sense of hope.”

Thanks to the funds of the RISE – Response in Syria Emergency program (in which the Emergency Coordination of the Focolare Movement, the AMU and AFN participate), damaged doors and windows have been repaired, the walls have been reinforced and painted and the electrical and plumbing systems have been restored.

The cracks are now gone, the office has been made safe and the activity of Seeds of Hope continues.
