September, school: consciously building your future

September brings with it the beginning of school and for us it becomes an opportunity to focus on training and education. Fundamental elements for the development of communities in Italy and elsewhere.

September brings with it, in Italy, the beginning of school: it is therefore a fundamental moment for education and training. It should be in every part of the world, unfortunately the reality is very different. There are countries in which children and young people are not guaranteed school attendance; or countries in which those of school age cannot afford to attend school. To ensure that there is a “September” within everyone’s reach, AMU supports various growth paths .

September, the kids at school

Within the Syria Emergency Seeds of Hope program, for example, AMU follows 180 children from elementary and middle schools in the Hamas After-School Program and 120 high school students in the city of Damascus; it also supports 130 hearing-impaired children in the EHIS school for the deaf in Aleppo. These are children who, despite numerous difficulties due to the war, do not give up and manage to achieve their scholastic goals. Just as little Farah and the talented Rojan did not give up: despite experiencing the complications dictated by deafness, they managed to build relationships with their schoolmates and advance in their respective scholastic levels. For AMU, education also means accompanying the youth of the communities, listening to their needs, their dreams for the future and trying to help them achieve them. As in Ecuador with the Sunrise + project with which AMU walks alongside young people who want to contribute to the growth of the society in which they live, placing the protection of the environment and local resources at the forefront. And it is precisely these young people who are so attentive and active, who in turn raise awareness of greater respect for their own territory. “School” therefore also means involving participation.Syria, the good soul of the young Rojan And then training, both work-related and personal, to activate inclusion paths like those involving the girls and boys of the Fare Sistema Oltre l’Accoglienza program, in Italy . An example for everyone: Lucien who has lived in Puglia since 2017, after leaving Guinea, studies at the University (Faculty of Political Sciences), thanks to Fare Sistema he signed a work contract at the Open Cafè in Bari, and cultivates a big dream: to work in defense of immigrants’ rights.
This is what September means for AMU: giving girls and boys a chance to build their own future in a free and conscious way. It means that when these girls and boys find themselves living delicate moments, AMU accompanies and supports them.
