When he finished a physical therapy exercise Layal smiled. And that smile of hers opened up a world.
Layal is seven years old. She was diagnosed with mild cerebral atrophy caused by a lack of oxygen at birth. This led to difficulties in movement and speech, and the need for constant physiotherapy sessions. But Layal lives in Syria, where treatment is expensive and going to the city for appointments with the physiotherapist is unaffordable for her parents. She tried several centers, but the difficulties were always the same. Until in Homs she was welcomed into the physiotherapy center supported by the Seeds of Hope project and was entrusted to the professionalism of Dr. Majdouline, with whom she began a new course of treatment.
Layal is an exceptional child, she has always been cooperative. The physiotherapist was able to make her work by combining physical exercises with games and fun. The results were not long in coming: Layal’s progress was evident after just a few sessions. The position of her spine is now more correct and the little girl can walk with less difficulty. The Semi di Speranza center also provided her with a pair of orthopedic shoes so as not to lose the improvements she had earned with so much effort. Layal is now an independent child in her movements both at home and at school. She has also achieved an excellent level of autonomy in language. And that smile of hers continues to open worlds with even more force.
