The 2020-2021 school year has begun with great enthusiasm and passion, despite all the health and economic conditions that affect our students, our teachers and our Syrian brothers.

Since the beginning of school in September, the “Shababuna Mustaqbaluna” Center has welcomed 85 students, 52 of whom will graduate from high school, while another 33 will make up 2 groups of the ninth grade. At the center, day after day, we observe the consolidation of the brotherly relationship between students, teachers and operators . Everyone comes with joy and also contributes with small gestures: some offer to perform small services during the courses or for their success, others help to organize the classrooms and common areas. The after-school program in Damascus, like all the centers where the activities of the ” Seeds of Hope ” program take place, is not only important to support the kids in their studies, but becomes a real point of reference for sharing the economic and social difficulties that the population is going through, looking together for a way to overcome them. Very often, during these months, operators and teachers have also visited the families of the students , realizing the great difficulties that many of them are experiencing. Rising prices and unemployment first and foremost: now all family members, even the youngest, are asked to find a way to contribute to the income. For example, Danny, in the tenth grade, works at a hairdresser every day after school, he is very proud of being able to contribute to the family budget and thanks to after-school activities he tries to maintain good academic performance. Other families have reported specific cases and pressing needs, such as those related to purchasing goods or paying rent. A family, now on their fifth move, found themselves in difficulty again and risked another eviction if the operators had not taken action to find the funds to support them and ensure they could remain in the house for another year. The weight of daily suffering is beginning to make many lose hope, increasing pessimism and the desire to leave, thus leaving any possibility of contributing to the recovery of Syria. Our commitment and that of all the operators of the program (which is called “Seeds of Hope”) is to support families so that they can remain in their own country, trying to overcome the emergency and recovering the desire to rebuild Syria with their own commitment and their own abilities, according to the contribution that each one can give.

Syrian families need your help to resist and rebuild.
