Maria is an entrepreneur of the EdC network in Cuba who, due to Covid19 and the consequent containment measures declared in the country, had to interrupt her activity. In addition to this, she and her husband, considered subjects at high risk of contagion, had to follow a strict quarantine, not being able to leave the house. Without any source of income, the situation was difficult from the start.
Despite the hardships, the restrictions and the very few means to live, Maria with great resilience he tried to reuse some scraps of fabric from his business to make masks and distribute them free to those who needed it most, succeeding, in one week to produce and distribute over 200 pieces. Given the economic situation, Many suggested that she try to sell these masks to earn something, but Maria and her husband, guided by their faith, wanted to be protagonists in their own small way of a gesture of solidarity towards those who were experiencing the same hardship. Once the scraps were finished, the activity did not stop, Maria asked people to bring her leftovers of fabric so that she could continue to sew and make masks , giving life to a circle of solidarity that continues to this day. Her story did not go unnoticed, and through the intermediation of AMU, Maria and her husband received extraordinary help from other entrepreneurs that today allows them to face the emergency and cover the needs of the family. The emergency caused by Covid19 has brought many difficulties throughout the world, but there are more and more stories that tell how even in times of discomfort, one can be a point of reference for others and activate a virtuous circle of reciprocity.
