The after-school program “Generation of Hope” in Homs, which is part of the Syria Emergency Program , has tried to carry out some activities with the kids even in this difficult period.
It was only a month or so, but very intense and very important for the kids and the operators. After the forced closure due to the Coronavirus, at the end of March, the “Generation of Hope” Center in Homs, Syria, restarted some activities from the end of June to the end of July, when it had to proceed with a new closure.
An important period for the kids, to which the operators and teachers contributed to provide, first of all, maximum safety.
Before starting again, a program and methodology were defined to ensure that the children arrive safely, staggering the meetings and groups, and to activate the safety and sanitization procedures continuously and effectively.
At the Homs center, the kids were able to review the subjects and topics they had studied during the year, and also had support to fill in some gaps. In addition, the more scholastic activities were alternated with moments of entertainment and games, always in complete safety.
To restart activities with the kids, try to rebuild an environment similar to the one they left, resume the accompaniment and psychological support for children and families , there was a notable effort by the operators and teachers of the after-school program “Generation of Hope” in Homs, Syria. But the idea of being able to give young people and adults a period of serenity and lightheartedness, after a period of great difficulties and uncertainties due to Covid19, did not make them waver.
Unfortunately, after about a month the center closed again , but the enthusiasm of the teachers and operators and the desire of the children and families not to lose what was being rebuilt, allows us to maintain an important contact every day that everyone hopes will soon be back in person.
