A testimony that comes to us from Beirut (Lebanon):
“It looked like an atomic explosion. My first reaction was fear, I wanted to hide and deny the evidence. I was afraid of going back to the war period, a situation I never wanted to relive.”
After an initial moment of closure, Grace felt that she could not remain with her hands in her pockets, she felt within herself the need to take action with “acts of love” to help those who were experiencing a situation much worse than hers. So she decided to take part in the actions of Humanité Nouvelle alongside the families who had suffered damage following the explosion at the port of Beirut.
“The experience that I will always carry with me was being able to stand next to a family that had lost everything, that had been hurt and affected on all levels: physically, mentally and economically. They lost their grocery store, their only source of income, the mother suffered injuries and trauma and is facing a long and complex medical journey and the children were traumatized. The youngest, 10 years old, no longer wants to move on his own and no longer sleeps like before.”
Grace took care of the needs of this family from Beirut, accompanied them in the various phases of the reconstruction of the shop and remains at the side of the mother and children for medical care and psychological support.
“I will never forget this experience. It gave me the joy of resurrection to see the struggle of a resilient family who lost everything here in Beirut and suffered so much, but who came back to life thanks to the love and global communion of people they did not know personally. This gives me hope for a happier tomorrow, with less fear. God knows how to speak in our hearts.”
