Ahmed’s report card: what a satisfaction!

Amhed, in Syria, holds his thirteen-year-old boy's last report card in his hands. This year, at school, he was the best in his class and it is a great satisfaction for him because he achieved this goal after a long educational journey at the after-school program supported by AMU in Homs with the program Seeds of Hope.

Thirteen years old and a childhood lived in the midst of war in the city of Damascus, Syria, with a father who could not find a job and a social situation and economic hardship. But Ahmed says he doesn’t remember anything about when he was little. He now lives with his parents in another Syrian city, Homs, where AMU has started an action to support families with the Syria Emergency Seeds of Hope program to provide health and food assistance, medical care and – also – support for the EHIS school for the deaf and after-school programs. When Ahmed approached the after-school center in Homs he was a very sensitive boy, easily tearful and with many academic gaps. At the time he was in the fourth grade. Ahmed promoted in school!Samah, his teacher, started working with him on these aspects, work then continued with the teachers of the following classes. Among his initial weak points, science and physics: but the boy recovered well in these subjects. There has also been recovery on the emotional side, and Ahmed has put aside his shyness and has become a social boy, aware of his own path , here in Syria, who sums it up with these few words: “All the teachers have left a mark by taking care of me and motivating me to improve”. At the end of the last school year, Ahmed ranked first among his classmates: a great satisfaction for him who holds the report card in his hands with a satisfied expression , for the teachers who followed him and for his mother who did not hide her joy: the goal achieved goes far beyond the simple scholastic result.
