Access to drinking water in Africa remains one of the greatest challenges for the development of rural communities, but it is also the driving force behind concrete transformation. In Cibitoke, Burundi, this goal is increasingly becoming a visible reality: clean water has
finally started to flow from the fountains in areas where it had never reached before, such as in the remote village of Gicaca.
And this is thanks to the AMU project, “Water, source of life and development,” carried out in partnership with CASOBU and with the fundamental support of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) . It is a concrete project, built together with local communities , to restore dignity and hope to thousands of families.
To verify the impact and progress of the “Water, source of life and development” project, a delegation from the CASOBU Executive Committee, together with the local coordination team, went on a monitoring mission directly to the intervention sites.
The impact of new water infrastructure on the community
During the site visits, committee members saw firsthand how the creation of these water infrastructures is reshaping the daily lives of the population, particularly easing the workload of women and ensuring health security for families.
“I am truly happy to see with my own eyes the extent and impact of the work done,” said an emotional Nkeshimana Souavis , member of the CASOBU Executive Committee, during the visit. “It is gratifying to see the faces of the women happy to finally be able to draw drinking water. We are grateful for the commitment of the coordination team: it is a job that brings credit both to the country and to CASOBU.”

Guaranteeing a fundamental right like access to drinking water in Africa means restoring dignity and a future to entire villages. The change being brought about is enormous. Cooperation and collective commitment can truly improve the lives of individuals and their communities.
