We live in discomfort and uncertainty for the future, with the anxieties of war entering directly into our peaceful daily life. Is evil overtaking and crushing us? Should we seek solutions and expedients that can save ourselves and our loved ones? How can we believe and commit ourselves to the “United World” in these difficult and dark times? In the depths of our own conscience, each of us can draw guidance for right action, seek and find that light and strength to remain human even when everything around us seems to be going in the opposite direction. Let us take example from those who in past generations, in crucial moments like this, have courageously testified to their coherence, paying the price in person. Ultimately, it is precisely hope that, by nourishing their consciences and their hearts, has allowed subsequent generations to enjoy freedom and prosperity. And it is also the hope of change that supports AMU’s work every day alongside the most vulnerable communities. If we want, we too can be authentic witnesses, even giving a different meaning to the greetings we will exchange in the coming days, perhaps with people we meet by chance. With sincerity and courage, let us go to the heart of our interlocutors and rekindle hope in those who have lost it, or we join forces with those like us who are committed to giving hope to humanity. Be hope: together we can!
(Stefano Comazzi, AMU president)
