“Hi, my name is Leonardo, I hope you will go back to school and that there will be no more war and earthquakes. I’m sorry for you, I love you so much” .
This is one of the messages that the children of the IC Falcone primary school in Grottaferrata (Rome) wrote for their Syrian peers during one of the workshops of the course “Living Peace: Peace as a school project. Educational proposal for active and responsible citizenship”.
The words of Leonardo and his schoolmates are proof that working constantly on peace bears fruit, and builds bridges. These messages, in fact, were taken in by Carlos Palma, founder and coordinator of Living Peace International, who delivered them directly into the hands of teachers and children in Syria. A country where “at this moment an excess of evil coexists with a great human capacity to do good”.
Carlos says: “The greatest suffering of these people today is the awareness of slowly dying of hunger and cold. I want to be a sign of hope, of relief, to bring peace to many hearts, sharing with them everything they experience. In my suitcase there are peace flags, letters, colored mandalas made by German, Belgian and Italian children and teachers”.
At the end of March, Carlos landed on the other side of the Mediterranean, more than three thousand kilometers away from Italy, with this cargo of peace. He stopped in the city of Aleppo
where he delivered messages and mandalas of peace in the EHIS school, the educational and rehabilitation institute for deaf children supported by AMU with the project Seeds of Hope : “The reaction of gratitude was immediate, with videos of greetings, photos and many gestures of love from students and teachers.
A moment of training with the masters with a lot of dialogue, deep and sincere, to find together the way to generate inner peace in so many hearts deeply marked by suffering and discouragement .
