Some news and more details have been released on the training course “ Educating for global citizenship: Solidarity Service Learning ” which will start next September.
At the 2015 World Congress on Education, Pope Francis recalled how “ In particular, school would not be a complete learning environment if what the student learns did not also become an opportunity for service to his or her community. Learning, even today, is considered by many students as an obligation or an imposition. It is likely that this also depends on the school’s inability to communicate to students, in addition to knowledge, passion, which is the driving force of research .
Quando, però, gli studenti hanno l’opportunità di sperimentare che quanto apprendono è importante per la loro vita e per quella della comunità di appartenenza, la loro motivazione cambia. It is desirable that teachers offer students opportunities to experience the social impact of what they are studying, thus encouraging the discovery of the connection between school and life, and the development of a sense of responsibility and active citizenship.”*
For this reason, the e-learning course on Service Learning (also known as “Service Learning”), promoted by AMU in partnership with CLAYSS and in collaboration with RPU, will be a path that will also allow a fruitful exchange between teachers and educators from different parts and communities of the world , who work every day in different educational contexts. Already last year, in the first training edition, the internationality of the training represented a precious strength to promote not only sharing between different social realities but also to work together as a virtual class that, despite the distances, creates interdisciplinary pedagogical links, twinning, builds together a new, global educational path. *Taken from Instrumentum laboris 2014 official preparatory and working document of the World Congress on Education : Educating today and tomorrow.
