During the quarantine, Zaka has been busy making wax and soap, continuing her education at home with her son Abdel Halim, a 21-year-old with Down syndrome.
Zaka, also thinking of her son, chose the course for the production of wax and soap, within the project “ Promotion and empowerment for the women of Homs ” (part of the Syria Emergency Program ) financed by Missio Aachen – Internationales Katholisches Missionswerk eV , a German, non-profit organization that operates for charitable purposes. In the past, Zaka had already looked for training courses and jobs for Abdel Halim, so that he could succeed in becoming independent, but on her way she had only encountered refusals caused by the distrust towards the working abilities of a boy with Down syndrome. Zaka at the training center in Homs, from the first days of the training course for the production of wax and soap, had immediately understood that the job would also be suitable for Abdel Halim: ” I put all my effort and love into learning how to do the work perfectly – Zaka tells us – I received a lot of support from the trainer, our Salam, even during the quarantine. It is precisely during this period that I also started teaching my son how to work with wax and soap. Now it is time to create my own business, hoping that it will soon become my son’s business too. It is not easy to teach him some things and he needs time to learn, but I am sure that soon he will be able to do everything by himself because we will both put in our best effort. “
Now Zaka and Abdel Halim are discovering their potential and putting their skills to good use .
Now the goal seems to be coming true: Zaka and Abdel Halim can start selling their products.
