Egypt, at the school of peace

Caring for others, respect, collaboration, dialogue: these are some of the values of the project I, Ambassador of Peace, that AMU is promoting in Egypt. For this reason, in the past months, thirty volunteers have participated in a series of training meetings. The goal? To return to a culture of peace.

The project I, Ambassador of Peace aims to contribute to the diffusion of the culture of peace and dialogue in Egyptian society, which passes through care for others, respect and collaboration. Values that have been part of the history of Egypt since ancient times and that today AMU wants to recover through this project. How? One of the first steps is training. The educational activity that AMU started in Egypt in recent months, between February and March, is called Training of Trainers , with the aim of training volunteers capable of spreading a culture of peace and dialogue, respecting everyone’s differences . During the first meeting of the President of the United World Foundation in Cairo, Saad Ihsan , illustrated the activities of the UWF and the projects already carried out and concluded; he explained the specific activities and objectives of the project I, Ambassador of Peace aimed at a wide audience of potential beneficiaries: children, teachers, parents, community leaders, professionals . Once this introductory phase was completed, the training activities were carried out by Mona Abu Tira – professor of psychology at Ain Shams University, one of the most prestigious Egyptian universities – and Professor Akram, an experienced and competent educator. Thirty volunteers participated in the training course, selected based on the diversity of their experiences, their culture and their age. Furthermore, all of them had already worked in contact with children, and had shown passion and willingness to immerse themselves in this new adventure. The lessons that these volunteers followed focused on how to acquire and then teach in turn the values of peace, cooperation and dialogue to children and young people of different ages . There were also moments of practical exercises, which took place in an atmosphere of joy and happiness. These feelings contributed significantly to facilitating the learning process. Now we have to take a further step and enter the second phase of the training: implementing what has been learned, measuring ourselves with children, parents and teachers to transmit to them the values of the project I, Ambassador of Peace.
