Food and care still needed to be provided for the rabbit farm so as to start selling them. They continued to raise awareness within the community about addictions. The carpentry workshop dedicated production to the final pieces of furniture needed for the facility.
Between June and August, in response to the Covid emergency, project activities were geared to supporting the detoxification centres for young people and adults suffering from substance-addiction in the municipality of Nezahualcóyotl
The emergency project provided food, personal protective equipment and basic necessities for four houses with 270 guests, and managed to initiate a circle of reciprocity amongst the houses themselves where those who received more than they needed, would put their surplus back into circulation, at the disposal of the others.
Once the area around the structure had been sorted out at the end of September they were able to welcome the first 7 young people into the refuge: Efraín, Christian, Leonel, Ángel, Alejandro, Sergio and Enrique, who, after completing their detoxification programme, can begin their journey back into society and employment.
“I want to be part of the first San Benito generation. I am sure that the logotherapy, the life of prayer, work and community in such a calm and peaceful environment, on the outskirts of the city, will help me enormously to continue towards the liberation that I so ardently desire for my life and for those close to me”. These were Alejandro’s words when he entered the refuge.
Here is a summary of the project’s development up to December 2020
