In India, the Covid-19 vaccination and awareness-raising programme in rural communities is now in full swing and has already produced positive results in the first few weeks.
Seven villages have been visited as part of this initial phase (Ramachettipalayam, Kuniamuthur, Kasturigarden, Maraimalai Nagar, Sentamil Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Kovaipudur (Shanti Ashram and ICPH campus)).
Thanks to the activities carried out, demand for the vaccinations has increased, particularly from people over 60 years of age for the precautionary dose. In collaboration with the local authorities, this has enabled us to immunize 744 people.
Listening, understanding and raising awareness is still a long, slow process but every day the trust built by those working on the programme is encouraging an increasing number of people to get vaccinated, to protect themselves and their community.
