“I used to live without knowing where I was going, until a scholarship allowed me to realize my dream.” Thus writes Marc, a young African, thanking all those who contributed to the Fraternity with Africa project. Gladly we share with all his experience.
«Thinking about my previous situation, this scholarship was a sign of hope for a better tomorrow. I come from a family of four children (three boys and one girl). I am the eldest. We soon lost both parents, who were farmers. We were taken in charge by our uncle, who was also a farmer, father of seven children. Life in this family has not been easy, but for the grace of God we overcame the obstacles. But then my uncle could not finance my studies and I had to stop my Health Sciences lessons at the University, and started to do small jobs to survive…
In this atmosphere in which I did not know exactly where I was going, I had the chance to benefit from a scholarship of the Fraternity with Africa project. It will enable me to realize my dream of becoming a healthcare provider, because I now study nursing!
I just finished the first year, which went well, because the scholarship has enabled me to devote myself entirely to my training.
Now I rediscovered the joy of living, to make friends and to serve others. In these dynamics and with a very good state of mind I started my internship in Man, at the health centre of the Focolare.
Although this training is useful for me to practice what I had learned during the academic year, it is also my contribution to this great social work, which consists of giving without expecting anything in return. I worked in very good conditions, trying to give the best of myself, and to see some patients regain their health gave me great joy. Now I finished the internship and I hope to repeat it next year, to consolidate the results and help more people to recover.»[:it]
“Vivevo senza sapere dove stavo andando, finché una borsa di studio mi ha permesso di realizzare il mio sogno”. Così scrive Marc, un giovane africano, per ringraziare quanti hanno contribuito al progetto Fraternità con l’Africa. Volentieri condividiamo con tutti la sua esperienza.
«Pensando alla mia situazione precedente, questa borsa di studio è stata un segno di speranza in un domani migliore. Vengo da una famiglia di quattro figli (tre maschi e una femmina). Io sono il più grande. Abbiamo perso presto entrambi i genitori, che erano agricoltori. Siamo stati presi in carico da nostro zio, anche lui agricoltore, padre di sette figli. La vita in questa famiglia non è stata facile, ma per grazia di Dio abbiamo superato gli ostacoli. Mio zio non poteva finanziare i miei studi e ho dovuto interrompere le lezioni di Scienze della Salute all’Università, per dedicarmi a piccoli lavori per sopravvivere…
In questa atmosfera in cui non sapevo esattamente dove stavo andando, ho avuto la possibilità di beneficiare di una borsa di studio del progetto Fraternità con l’Africa che, va detto, mi permetterà di realizzare il mio sogno di diventare operatore sanitario, perché oggi io studio da infermiere!
Ho appena finito il primo anno, che è andato bene, perché la borsa di studio mi ha permesso di dedicarmi interamente alla mia formazione. Oggi ho riscoperto la gioia di vivere, di fare amicizia e di servire gli altri. In questa dinamica e con un ottimo stato d’animo ho iniziato il mio tirocinio a Man, presso il centro sanitario dei Focolari.
Anche se questo tirocinio mi è utile per fare pratica di quanto appreso nel corso dell’anno accademico, esso rappresenta anche il mio contributo a questa grande opera sociale, che consiste nel dare senza attendersi alcun ritorno. Ho lavorato in condizioni molto buone, cercando di dare il meglio di me stesso, e grande è stata la mia gioia nel vedere alcuni pazienti recuperare la salute. Ora ho finito il tirocinio e spero di ripeterlo il prossimo anno, per consolidare i risultati ed aiutare più persone a ritrovare la salute.»[:]
