Precious’s story is at the same time a normal and exceptional story. She attributes to God every affair of her life and the fact that she has arrived in Italy safe and sound. Now she is 18 but her childhood has been difficult. She grew up in a polygamous family and lost her mother – the only person that really cared for her – when she was still a little girl. No one else in the family ever loved her that much, and his father pushed her to leave for Italy saying that she would come to study, but actually sent her here because he wants her to work and send lots of money back home.

Precious has dealt with great courage the journey that made her cross Africa, from Nigeria to the coasts of Libya and then on a boat to Italy. Here she resumed her studies, which she was forced to interrupt to his father’s will. She is in a reception centre of the SPRAR system in Catania, she took an Italian language course, one on IT science and she is now attending school for healthcare professionals. Her dream is to become a nurse.

In the Christmas period, thanks to the network of families who took part in the Making System beyond Hospitality project, she spent the holidays in Vigevano in the home of Pietro, Daniela and their children, Martina and Giovanni. For Precious those have been beautiful days: “They did not treat me as a guest, but like a daughter. I was one of them. We have been together doing what we do in the family and even when we were with their friends, or when I went to see the city of Milan with Martina’s friends, it seemed that everyone already knew me.” After the vacation, the relationship between Precious and the Garini family continues every day with a greeting, a photo, or a smiley face on the phone. Daniela and Pietro are for her a vital reference to which she wants to remain well anchored.

La rete delle famiglie disponibili ad ospitare i ragazzi del progetto Fare Sistema si sta consolidando, grazie al contributo di AFN Onlus presente su tutto il territorio. Per molti è un’esperienza fondamentale, come nel caso di Precious…

La storia di Precious ha qualcosa di normale e di eccezionale allo stesso tempo. Lei attribuisce a Dio ogni vicenda della sua vita e il fatto di essere arrivata in Italia sana e salva. Adesso ha 18 anni e la sua infanzia è stata difficile. È cresciuta in una famiglia poligama e ha perso la mamma – l’unica persona che davvero si curava di lei – quando era ancora una bambina. Nessun altro in famiglia le ha mai voluto bene in modo profondo, tanto che è stato suo padre a spingerla a partire per l’Italia dicendole che sarebbe venuta a studiare, ma in realtà l’ha mandata qui perché vuole che lavori e che mandi tanti soldi a casa.

Precious ha affrontato con grande coraggio il viaggio che le ha fatto attraversare l’Africa, dalla Nigeria verso le coste della Libia e poi su un barcone fino all’Italia. Qui ha ripreso gli studi, che era stata costretta ad interrompere per volontà del padre. È in un centro di accoglienza del sistema SPRAR a Catania, ha fatto un corso di italiano, uno di informatica e ora sta frequentando la scuola per operatori sanitari. Il suo sogno è quello di fare l’infermiera.

Nel periodo di Natale, grazie alla rete di famiglie che partecipano a Fare Sistema Oltre l’Accoglienza, ha trascorso alcuni giorni di vacanza a Vigevano a casa della famiglia di Pietro, Daniela e i loro figli, Martina e Giovanni. Per Precious sono state giornate bellissime: “Non mi hanno trattato come un’ospite, ma come una figlia. Io ero una di loro. Siamo stati insieme facendo quello che si fa in famiglia e anche quando siamo stati dai loro amici, oppure quando sono andata a vedere Milano con le amiche di Martina, sembrava che tutti già mi conoscessero”.  Dopo la vacanza il rapporto tra Precious e la famiglia Garini va avanti ogni giorno con un saluto, una foto, uno smile sul telefonino. Daniela e Pietro sono per lei un riferimento vitale a cui vuole rimanere ben ancorata.
