The Emilia Romagna Emergency Team is organizing a work camp for 15 young adults in Sarsina (FC) from August 6 to August 13, 2023. The initiative, made possible thanks to the fundraising of the Emergency Coordination of the Focolare movement, intends to support a situation of need caused by the landslides of the flood last May in Romagna, at the same time it wants to be an opportunity for growth for the young participants and for exchange to broaden their horizons and get to know the territory, creating something useful and positive. Here is the information to participate: WHO? Young adults are invited to this experience. The work camp will be activated only if a team of 8 people is reached and cannot accommodate a number greater than 15 participants. After that number there will be a waiting list. WHY? An Agriturismo with an attached Educational Farm, which has had many landslides on the roads and paths it owns (the public bodies do not intervene directly but will give a contribution to cover part of the expense), needs unskilled labor. It is located in Sarsina (municipality of Mercato Saraceno located on the border) and is called ‘Il Pagliaio’. The family that runs it, composed of three people, is busy following the work on the roads and has no time for farm work and ordinary maintenance. This is why a hand was asked to speed up the work and thus be able to resume educational activities, visits to the farm and the animals (numerous and friendly) that are their main source of income, together with the orchards and the reception of guests. WHERE AND WHEN? Sarsina (FC) from August 6 (with dinner) to August 13, 2023 (expected conclusion in the morning). It is not possible to participate in only one part of the Camp, it is necessary to be available for the entire period. WHAT? There are heavier jobs that are within everyone’s reach: sanding and painting outdoor furniture, clearing brush, clearing overgrown fields, fixing animal pens and other fences, etc. Even in landslide work, non-specialized help would be needed since the workers carry out some simple activities (unloading materials from trucks, filling the cement mixer, cleaning the site at the end of the day, etc.) which take up time that could be used more profitably. All activities that, even if no one has ever done them before, can be learned quickly with a little good will. AS? Given the climate, the work will be carried out from 5 to 10 (in the morning) and from 18 to 20 in the afternoon to escape the hours of unbearable and dangerous heat. It doesn’t matter if you’re a brute or have special skills or manual abilities. There is work for everyone… both breaks and doing in groups of two or three what one worker does alone are permitted. The essential thing is to be punctual at the beginning of the work and to have good will. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT. Work clothes and heavy gloves. Disposable plastic gloves will be provided for those painting, but if everyone has work gloves it is preferable. The farm provides individual protection for special jobs. FREE TIME . The many hours in which you cannot work can be used to rest and a couple of outings are planned in the afternoon. One in the swimming pool of the Terme di San Pietro in Bagno which is located a few kilometers away and another tourist-cultural one with a guide to the town of Sarsina which is very ancient and is the birthplace of Titus Maccius Plautus. These outings are free but participation would be appreciated because they are part of the experience that is proposed. Also during the moments of rest, before lunch and before the resumption of work in the afternoon, at 12 and 17, moments of cultural and social exchange will be organized with people who will come to tell something about themselves or their profession. These moments are also optional, but they are an integral part of the camp experience. After dinner, for those who still have energy, there will be moments of relaxation with games, dancing and singing. PRACTICAL NOTES ON ACCOMMODATION. For rest there are 5 houses with three beds each, with spartan rooms that they offer to pilgrims who travel the Via Francigena. They are equipped with facilities but not beds, so it is necessary to bring a mattress and sleeping bag or similar. Services are in the immediate vicinity. EXPENSES. Food, lodging and excursions are free. Each person will have to pay for their own travel expenses, perhaps by making arrangements with someone who comes from the same geographical location. The Emilia Romagna Emergency team will communicate whether this is feasible once they have received the participants’ departure locations. The Emilia Roma Emergency Team will also send precise directions to the location and parking via WhatsApp. FILL OUT THE FORM. To register, you must fill out the form at the link below with all the necessary data, including to arrange insurance, which will be managed by APS Focolari – Romagna. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!
