Solidarietà Internazionale – Cipsi – to which AMU is associated, participates in the project “Water, Environment, City” which on the occasion of World Water Day launches the appeal for “The recognition of water as a human right and public common good in the Constitution” and proposes some in-depth paths on the theme “GIVING VALUE TO WATER”.

Rome, March 19, 2021 – “The theme of this year’s World Water Day 2021 is “Giving value to water”. With respect to the different “values” attributable to water – behavioral, cultural, social, environmental, economic, financial – the partner associations of the project “Cities and the sustainable management of water and natural resources” propose some paths and tools for exploring the theme of the day in greater depth. From the Cipsi website: The first is the Dossier GIVING VALUE TO WATER which examines some critical issues related to the dominant approach of giving an “economic value” to water, and of conditioning access to drinking water on the payment of a “price”, as envisaged by objective 6 of the 2030 Agenda. From this perspective, the launch of the first “future” Fund , listed on the Californian stock exchange – in December 2020 – constitutes a threat to the human right established by the UN, as denounced by Special Rapporteur Pedro Arrojo”. The Dossier also allows you to delve deeper into: The perceptions and habits of Italian citizens regarding the use of tap water , through the consultation carried out by Cittadinanzattiva; Water and Health, in times of Covid, edited by Giada Rossi, University of Udine; Global Warming and Water by Filippo Giorgi, Abdus Salam International Centre For Theoretical Physics of Trieste; Water and cities for sustainable development, by Walter Vitali, Coordinator of the ASviS working group on goal 11; Water at school. Without wasting a drop !, by Giuseppe Labita, People Help The People (Palermo). The dossier is available at the link: https://www.cipsi.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/01-2021-Si-acqua-1.pdf

In relation to the main critical issues to overcome with respect to the risk of financialization, the Dossier contains some recommendations addressed to the European Parliament and to President Draghi so that, in addition to the inclusion in the Constitution of the concept of “sustainable development”, the recognition of water as a human right and common good, and of environmental goods as public common goods, is associated.

A second path It is the experience of deepening the knowledge of water as a human right, on the effects of climate change, on the integrated water cycle and on consumption carried out with the schools in Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli and Sicily that took part in a course on schools for water.

These requests are summarized in the video spot that will be broadcast on the websites and social networks of all the partner associations on the occasion of World Water Day at the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ2NgYo2giY and will be at the center of some territorial events held in the cities of Milan, Rome, Padua (Montagnana), Palermo and Udine.
