The mosaic as a network of reciprocity

As soon as she received the new tools from RestarT, Asmaa started fitting the pieces of her mosaics together again, for others too.

Asmaa is a mosaic artist, in her hands dozens of tiny tiles are transformed into works of art. With this talent of hers, the woman, 44 years old and resident in Aleppo, earns a living and has become one of the protagonists of the RestarT program in Syria. Those who join this AMU project receive the goods necessary to start their own business, and then return 50 percent of what they receive in money and the remainder in the form of goods and services to offer to the community.

RestarT to the rescue of mosaic art

Asmaa and the art of mosaic - RestarT in AleppoAsmaa needed new tools and new stones to ensure that her talent would continue to produce small masterpieces. But in today’s Syria, shattered by a devastating economic crisis, even making one’s art shine can be very complicated. The RestarT team came to her rescue, her work project deserved the support of the program , and she herself deserved an investment of trust in her abilities. It was the right choice.

The mosaic tiles become a vehicle of reciprocity

As soon as she received the new tools from RestarT , Asmaa started fitting the tiles of her mosaics again, but she added something more to her art: the value of reciprocity. The woman started teaching two girls how to make mosaic paintings, making them work in her workshop. Passing on the secrets of her talent to them, sharing the mosaicist’s craft, is one of the most beautiful gifts she could give these two young Syrians, who will thus have the opportunity to build a future for themselves too. She then taught 15 other aspiring mosaicist girls.

But Asmaa wants to go further Asmaa and the art of mosaic - RestarT in Aleppo

Aware that you also need to know how to use communication tools well and that the best results are achieved when you join with others, Asmaa has contacted several local associations through which she exhibits her works and meets new potential customers. This has also turned out to be an excellent idea: her sales have already doubled compared to previous years. Of course, Asmaa is now satisfied with her work and the goals she has achieved, but she has no intention of settling. She wants to pursue another dream: selling abroad via e-commerce. Will she succeed?
