Syria, festive atmosphere at Homs after-school club

In August, for the end of the school year, students, teachers and operators of the “Generazione di Speranza” center organized a big party with their families.

To say goodbye to the school year that has just ended, a big party was held at the cultural center in Homs . Songs, dances and musical performances organized and prepared by the kids and teachers of the after-school program to involve and tell their families about their journey. In this festive atmosphere, between the song composed especially by a teacher and a show on the drums by a student, there was also the opportunity to share experiences and impressions on the support work that the “Generation of Hope” center carries out every day together with the kids. Angelina’s grandmother, for example, thanked the operators because, beyond the help for school, the after-school program allowed her to save the relationship with her granddaughter. Angelina has always believed that the woman was her mother, when she was told the truth, the psychological support of the center was fundamental. All the parents were enthusiastic about the day. Neither they nor the kids have ever experienced something similar before. After years of war and embargo that continue to bring great difficulties and suffering to the population, it is not easy to have hope again . It is not easy to find places and communities where, through love and listening, it is possible to offer not only scholastic support, but also an accompaniment that changes each person and that, through mutual attention, also improves family relationships. A new year is about to begin, the older kids will leave the after-school program in Homs, full of what they have learned and experienced in these years. Others, younger, will enter and will have the same opportunities to study and grow, so as to become protagonists of their own future, always keeping in mind love and respect for others.
