“Lokmat Mahaba” means “a bite of love” and is an initiative that provides support to the most vulnerable families in the cities of the Syrian coast and has also been supported with funds from the “Syria Emergency” Programme .

The idea was born from a group of volunteers, supported by Father Gandhi Muhanna, parish priest of the Maronite Church in the region, who prepare and provide complete meals every week to families in difficult financial situations in al-Kafroun and Mashta al-Helou. Each week, they select the meals, trying to vary the ingredients and their nutritional contributions, cook in Father Gandhi’s kitchen and one or more volunteers take care of the distribution to the families.
From the beginning, the project has been based on the support and initiative of the local population. Some provide their time and energy, others provide some products from their land or a little financial help.
The initiative involves 22 families who are unable to meet their daily needs due to the continuous increase in prices and the ever-increasing unemployment.
But the commitment goes even further, in fact, the relationship with families leads to sharing with them the worries of daily life.
What Micheline, one of the volunteers, says expresses very well the spirit of service of the operators and the experience of reciprocity that they find themselves living: “In addition to volunteering in the kitchen, I distribute meals by creating a personal relationship with the families I meet. Meeting them and being with them has had a great impact on my life, it has made me more confident and has given me new strength to continue with the initiative, seeing how much these people need and how much I, in my own small way, can do to help them live better. In fact, the prayers we hear and the relationship that binds us are the true treasure of the project, and the value of these prayers is not personal, but rather makes us feel as if we are sharing prayers in every family.”
The economic crisis, the restrictions imposed by the Cesar Act, unemployment, the depreciation of the Syrian lira and the consequences of the Corona virus have worsened the conditions of the weakest and most struggling population.
For this reason, looking to the future, we can only continue with our Project and hope to expand it.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_btn title=”Click here to support the project” color=”warning” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amu-it.eu%2Fsostienici%2Fdona-ora-2%2F||target:%20_blank|”]
