Why the project “It can be done?” While in Burundi the training of the animators of the microcredit groups continues, Rose’s testimony tells the importance of the community microfinance project. Those who already have businesses are looking for the possibility of growing also to support their community and guarantee an income to other workers.

“In my group we started 13 years ago. With the first credit I got, I remember very well that I didn’t do anything special, I bought clothes and goods that I needed, but I wasted the rest. At the beginning I didn’t know how to start a business and what often happened was that I had difficulty repaying the credits received. Then I realized that I couldn’t continue to take out a loan without a concrete project and I finally decided to start the restaurant project with the first 300,000 Fbu (150 €). I started buying pots and pans, plates and little by little I opened the restaurant. It was 2009, I didn’t have any workers yet. At that time my children helped me in the kitchen and I took the bus to bring the food to the city where I had my customers. When they started to know me and the customers increased, I was able to hire workers. I’m proud that through the salary they receive I also participate in the realization of their dreams.”

Rose is very proud of her growth, she is happy to be able to provide a salary to 5 other families in addition to her own , but now she would like to improve and grow her business . For example, by renting a larger house, where she could cook and reduce restaurant and travel costs. Unfortunately, however, this is a significant investment and Rose does not have the requirements and guarantees necessary to access a loan from any bank . For Rose and for many other people like her who would like to grow their businesses, the AMU and CASOBU project was born, which supports the launch of a community Microfinance institution that will be able to offer savings and credit services to people with big dreams but still not bankable today.
