The RISE (Response in Syria Emergency) programme was established as a concrete response to alleviate suffering and restore hope in the Syrian people, after the devastating earthquake that hit Syria in February 2023. AMU in collaboration with AFN and through the office of Seeds of Hope in Syria, has brought support and aid to almost 10 thousand people through 14 activities carried out in the period between March 1 and November 30, 2023. However, the needs are still numerous. There is a need to not give up and continue with concrete actions, considering that the economic situation of the country continues to deteriorate. The RISE program continues to offer support and assistance to the Syrian people with a second phase of the project.
THE PREPARATORY ACTIVITY
As early as December 1, 2023, we began to identify real needs and understand how to respond to them effectively. Throughout the month, the team of Seeds of Hope conducted research on the current situation in the country and analyzed the data collected during the activities of the first phase of the RISE program. It also organized meetings with various international associations that operate locally both with development projects and with renovation work on houses damaged by the earthquake. Meetings that led to the creation of a valuable network of collaboration and sharing that can act concretely in the service of the Syrian people.
RISE: THE SECOND PHASE
After examining the current situation, the RISE 2 Program has already started some activities , including support for the elderly who need assistance (medical visits, medicines, food). Children are and will be protagonists of our initiatives: the little ones are in fact among the most vulnerable in the Syrian community. Other activities are about to start in these weeks. We continue to work tirelessly to be alongside the Syrian people in this moment of reconstruction and great difficulty.
