Pakistan, our response to the emergency

In recent months, Pakistan has been devastated by floods that have caused deaths and destroyed many structures. We have moved immediately to ensure first aid and basic necessities.

The destructive force of water has caused immediate and extensive damage to the communities affected by the floods in Pakistan and there are many consequences that are still affecting the population . For this reason, the Emergency Coordination of the Focolare Movement, with AMU and AFN, has launched a fundraiser to support the supply of food parcels, clothing and medical products to approximately 500 families in the localities of Nowshera in northern Pakistan, Tando-Alla-Yar and Kotri in Sindh, Sangar in southern Pakistan and other locations currently being evaluated. Our local contacts immediately mobilized to respond to the first requests for help and to assess the most urgent needs on the ground. Aid shipments have been organized since the first weeks , and are continuing, also considering the feasibility of transport. In Nowshera, in northern Pakistan, the Parish Priest reported 60 families in difficulty who have been reached by parcels with basic necessities. In the south of the country, 70 families have already received help in Tando-Alla-Yar, Sindh, and the provision of aid to about 100 families in Sangar is being planned. The focolarini present on site are directly involved in the preparation and distribution of the packages and, as in Larkana, in medical assistance. Here, an ambulance and a doctor are moving to reach those who still live on the streets and need treatment and medicine to combat typhoid, dengue, cholera and malaria in particular. Weeks later, the situation remains alarming. As the water levels gradually recede, the enormous severity of the devastation emerges, now aggravated by malnutrition and disease. The needs of the communities increase and change every day, which is why it is important to continue the response actions and continue to support the fundraising campaign launched by the Emergency Coordination.
