In recent months , 60 families have been supported in cultivating their land in Mozambique, allowing the temporary use of a tractor and distributing seeds and fertilizers. Thanks to this aid , agricultural production has improved, both in quantity and quality. The mill set up in the “25 de Setembro” neighborhood, a resettlement of victims of Cyclone Idai, is in full operation and serves more than 200 families , who in this way do not have to travel many kilometers to produce their own flour, the main element for feeding these communities. The bakery is also fully operational , producing bread for the nursery, the boarding school, the male and female farms and for the neighboring community. The bakery’s activities now reach around 600 people and have also become a source of income for the female farm. Poultry farming has recently started its activity and is estimated to serve the needs of 10-15 families per month . Production has slowed while we wait for the purchase of a solar-powered incubator and batteries. All the interventions implemented have brought tangible benefits to the daily lives of local families who are now recovering on their own from the serious damage suffered by the flood.
“I thank the project because thanks to it the women’s farm has managed to be self-sufficient and satisfy the primary needs of the house. The activities of the bakery and the poultry breeding will be important to have a source of income to maintain the farm and help the local community, but above all it will also serve the young guests to have professional training in these areas, to use once they are reintegrated into society.” Maria Patreque Naite “I am very grateful for the help that Fazenda da Esperança is giving me, I rebuilt my house and they helped me with the intervention of a tractor, so now I can grow crops to support my family.” Laurinda Philip
