Making Soap Makes Dreams Come True in Burundi

It is through work that Richard began to realize his dreams, in Burundi: he produces and sells soap. The program Si può fare! Microcredito e microfinanza comunità (It can be done! Community microcredit and microfinance) accompanied the boy in starting this business.

Now the results are there and you can see them! You can tell by watching this boy work , and you can guess it simply by the expression in his eyes as he tells his story. He is Richard. He lives in Burundi, one of the five countries with the highest poverty rates in the world. He produces soap. And he is one of the protagonists of the program Si può fare! carried out by AMU and CASOBU, a local non-profit organization. Richard, in fact, joined one of the community savings and microcredit groups, thanks to which he was able to start an income-generating activity . He himself tells us what results he has achieved in the video below: the production of soap which has increased significantly (from 20 to 470 kg per day), the hiring of collaborators who he pays regularly and the purchase of two lots of land for to be able to expand their business. (The project is implemented with the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia – regional law 19/2000)
