In Burundi: “Drinking water has arrived!”

Since Ruyigi has had drinking water, the community's life has improved. Starting with hygiene conditions.

Drinking water

In Burundi, 7,892 people have been reached by drinking water thanks to the Water source of life and development project in Ruyigi and among them 3,037 are students. AMU and CASOBU have made it possible for the communities of this territory to finally use drinking water by bringing it close to their homes. It is a great change for the locals. A change that was shared and actively participated in by everyone. Since this drinking water distribution point has existed in Ruyigi, life has improved, starting with hygiene conditions. In a word, all this means “health” . But, as one of the protagonists, Twagirayezu Vénantie, says , “now that the water has arrived we have to take care of it” . The community will have to be able to manage the water, take care of it, and solve any small problems that may arise in the water network in the future.

Access to healthcare

In Ruyigi one of the problems caused by poverty is also the cost of access to health care. Often families do not have money and means to treat themselves in case of illness. AMU and CASOBU have sensitized people to access existing health insurance . Through this system people can face costs that would otherwise be unsustainable. There is also another aspect of AMU and CASOBU interventions that has great relevance: all projects seek to build relationships of trust between people , allowing communities to work together.
