AMU – together with AFN – continues to support the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which is hosting hundreds of displaced people in its Gaza facilities, providing them with food, medicine, and basic necessities for survival. The emergency, in fact, is far from over.
Below we publish the news we received directly from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem on the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The Christian communities in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, the statement reads, “are facing unprecedented and prolonged challenges that threaten not only their livelihoods, but the very fabric of community life and Christian presence in the land where Christ was born.”
A point of reference for 170 families in Gaza
Although international media attention has diminished, the reality of the humanitarian emergency continues to worsen. Families are coping with harsh winter conditions in makeshift shelters, with flooding exacerbated by the total collapse of infrastructure . Electricity, sanitation, and clean water remain scarce.
Of the more than 170 Christian families currently sheltering in the Patriarchate’s facilities in Gaza, only fifteen have found their homes still standing, albeit uninhabitable. For this reason, the Patriarchate compound remains the only point of reference for receiving food and finding a basic sense of security and community.
West Bank and East Jerusalem
At the same time, the situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem has also deteriorated dramatically. Families who relied on tourism have lost all income, and work permits have plummeted to less than 10%. The outlook for 2026 remains extremely challenging due to ongoing instability. As a result, the Latin Patriarchate is overwhelmed by growing needs: from food assistance to job creation to urgent medical care.
AMU’s support for the people of Gaza continues
AMU continues to support the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to ensure continued assistance to the population, through fundraising for the Gaza Emergency . Every humanitarian aid intervention is a fundamental step towards preserving the presence of local communities and concretely responding to the needs of those who have lost everything.
