Appeal Political Movement for Unity – Focolari
“A heartfelt and strong appeal for an immediate end to the embargo in Syria which makes it difficult even to get aid in this terrible moment”. This is addressed by the International Center of the Political Movement for Unity, an expression of the Focolare Movement, to the international community, to governments and to the European Union. “At least temporarily suspend the financial embargo to allow humanitarian organizations already active on the ground to promptly provide the necessary aid.” Dramatic news is also arriving from the communities and families present in the territories hit by the earthquake. The Focolare Movement, which has been working in Syria for years with humanitarian aid and projects, has started a special global fundraising campaign . However, the difficulty of getting aid to Syria remains due to the measures introduced with the financial embargo. The Political Movement for Unity is activating all possible channels of contact also with other Movements and Associations and with those who have the power of decision-making and political persuasion, “but let’s do it quickly, to save as many people as possible.”
