In a region known for the proverbial resistance of citizens to respecting certain rules, the communities of Màcara, Sàlima and 10 de Agosto, where we operate, have demonstrated great responsibility and self-discipline in respecting all infection prevention protocols. This despite the fact that many families have been left without work , and therefore without income to purchase basic necessities, because businesses are at a standstill and the markets where fishermen and small farmers usually sell their products are closed. With the “Esperanza” project, we have started producing bread to be distributed to the neediest families in the communities . Thanks to the support of AMU, the raw materials and finished products from the community bakery created by the “Sunrise” project and managed by the community are purchased. The same happens for the chickens , which come from the community farm, also created thanks to the “Sunrise” project for post-earthquake recovery. This allows families to maintain an income and those who do not have a job to receive basic foods for their diet for free. In this period, deliveries of 700 loaves of bread and baked goods per day have begun and, at full capacity, 100 chickens will be added every 20 days. The “Esperanza” project to resist the Covid19 emergency is a fundamental support for communities already tested by the psychological, social and economic consequences of the 2016 earthquake. After the earthquake the situation was extremely difficult, now the goal is to support the population in the emergency without losing the important results of development and autonomy achieved with the “Sunrise” project.
Covid19 – In Ecuador we continue with «Esperanza»
Throughout South America, Covid19 still has the characteristics of a serious emergency.
