The “Seeds of Hope” program, promoted in coordination with the Focolare Movement and AFN, was created to restore dignity and a future to the most vulnerable: children, adolescents, and the chronically ill. It’s not just a project. It’s an embrace. It’s an outstretched hand that says: “You are not alone.”

Where all seems lost, hope takes root.

In Syria, after thirteen years of war, the word “peace” still seems distant. The bombs have cleared, but the ensuing economic and social crisis has overwhelmed the daily lives of millions. Today, more than 60% of the Syrian population—approximately 12.4 million people—is suffering from hunger.

The value of the national currency has collapsed. Food prices are out of control: in just three years, the price of rice has increased by 1087% , sugar by 1042% , and eggs by 1100% . The average family can no longer afford bread, medicine, or fuel.

Adding to the rubble of war are the effects of the February 6, 2023, earthquake , international sanctions , the energy crisis , and inflation exceeding 8% annually . Many young people continue to emigrate, and the Christian population—once deep-rooted and vibrant—is shrinking year by year.

“The war had taken everything from us, but hope kept us going.
Today many no longer find it even within themselves.”
Testimony of a mother from Aleppo

An exhausted country that does not give up

In this dramatic context, the “Seeds of Hope” program was born, promoted in collaboration with the Focolare Movement in Syria . A name that captures the deepest meaning of the intervention: sowing small gestures of care and solidarity so that life can sprout again, even amidst the ruins.

The goal is clear: to support the most vulnerable Syrian families by providing access to food, education, healthcare, and protection. Because where everything seems broken, hope can still take root.

Needs: to take care of oneself, to learn

The Syrian people today face a multidimensional humanitarian crisis .
The project’s priorities concern two fundamental sectors:

❤️ Health

  • Grants for over 100 patients per month affected by cancer and chronic diseases
  • Coverage of medicines, therapies and surgical interventions
  • Physiotherapy and psychological support programs for 360 people
  • Family support and awareness-raising activities

📚 Education

  • Educational centers in Homs, Damascus, and Baniyas for 365 children and adolescents
  • School support, recreational activities, peace education
  • Teacher training and family support

A program that heals, educates and rebuilds

With “Seeds of Hope” , humanitarian action is not limited to providing temporary assistance, but aims to restore dignity and a future to those affected through:

  • Reducing school dropouts and restoring children’s right to learn
  • Strengthening the psychosocial resilience of those who grew up under bombs
  • Guaranteeing life-saving care for those who have nothing left
  • Support for local operators, the true pillars of rebirth

Every number is a story.
Every story, a face.
Every face, a future that becomes possible again.
