Burundi – Another step for water in Ruyigi

The Burundian Ministry of Water has validated the technical study for the construction of the water network foreseen by the project "Water source of life and development in Ruyigi"

The CASOBU team and representatives of the Burundian Ministry of Water, Energy and Mines have validated the technical study for the construction of the drinking water supply network “Karaba-Misugi-Kigamba”, a crucial step for the Water Source of Life project in Ruyigi.

It will therefore be possible to proceed with the extension of the water network which will cover a distance of 24 km and will be able to serve the inhabitants of the Rubaragaza and Nombe hills of the municipality of Butezi, those of the Kigamba and Nyarunazi hills of the municipality of Ruyigi, two churches, 4 schools and the municipal high school, as well as the health centre .

Just as the involvement of local communities in defining needs and then in the operational phases of the project, constant sharing with local authorities is also an essential action for the project to be sustainable over time and for the interventions to become common and shared heritage . The contribution of the institutions, in fact, will be fundamental in the testing phase and especially in the maintenance phase.

The latter, as always, will involve the local population, investing them with the responsibility of maintenance and management but, at the same time, the support of the institutions will be essential to be able to coordinate any interventions and guarantee the sustainability and durability of the works that will be built.
