After the earthquake that hit Albania in November 2019, the Emergency Coordination of the Focolare Movement took action to support some families in difficulty. The work is being concluded and now we are thinking about psychological support for young people.
During the preliminary work of the local commission of the Focolare Movement , 6 families in need were identified, whose homes had suffered damage such that they were included in the reconstruction project. The Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting rules for the prevention and spread of the virus slowed down the start of the work, which was only possible in June 2020. Despite this initial slowdown, in November 2020 5 out of 6 families had completed the entire process of the work , in compliance with the requirements defined by the project and according to the law, managing to completely repair their homes. The sixth family, having suffered the most damage from the earthquake, due to delays in the inspection due to the pandemic, will try to spend the contribution received in the current year. All families had the opportunity to face the winter season in a suitable structure . In the difficult moment of the earthquake, the solidarity of the Focolare Movement created a climate of solidarity and unity among the beneficiary families and among all the members of the Movement in Albania, strengthening unity with all the members of the Movement in the world, especially considering the difficult moments experienced in that period by Italy, due to the pandemic. In addition to the repair of the last house, the project will continue (as soon as the regulations and the situation created by Covid19 allow it) with a series of training meetings for young people and adolescents , severely affected by the earthquake and its consequences. The path aims to be a support for the control of emotions and for the rehabilitation of the psychological consequences caused by the earthquake itself.
