A student from Damascus

Carla plans her future while attending the after-school program supported by AMU, aiming for the Faculty of Engineering and a possible scholarship in Europe

Carla, a student in Damascus, attends the after-school program supported by Seeds of HopeToday Carla is a high school student in the city of Damascus (Syria), and knows well Our Youth, Our Future , the center in Damascus that AMU supports through the Seeds of Hope program.

Three years ago, when she was in eighth grade and her brother was a senior in high school, they both enrolled in this center because they needed educational support .

Our Youth, Our Future in Damascus: what is it?

In Syria, after years of war and due to difficult economic conditions aggravated by the crisis and international sanctions, public services are almost completely absent, particularly schools.

Schools , overcrowded and understaffed, prevent children from adequately attending classes, making remedial and support courses essential. In Damascus, this after-school program supported by AMU offers precisely these opportunities, making them accessible even to the most vulnerable families who still wish to ensure a quality education for their children .

Important milestones

At the end of her eighth year of middle school, thanks to the support she received and the activities carried out at Our Youth, Our Future , Carla graduated with excellent results: 294 points out of 310. Carla, a student in Damascus, attends the after-school program supported by Seeds of HopeA truly important milestone, which also had the merit of pushing her to continue her studies.

Today she’s returned to the center to continue her education, this time as a high school student . She knows there are excellent teachers here and doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to get the best possible education.

Plans for the future?

Carla has plenty of plans for her future. First, she’d like to graduate high school with a high grade so she can then enter the Faculty of Engineering , majoring in Telecommunications, in Damascus.

The girl has clear ideas on the matter: “I think that automation and information technology are now part of every aspect of life.”

But she also has an alternative option , a Plan B, which stems from her great passion for drawing: “I’m thinking about architecture as a possible alternative.” But after that, Carla doesn’t intend to stop: “Later, I hope to obtain a scholarship in Europe , so I can continue to grow in my studies and realize my ambitions.”
