The Syrian people have been living in extremely difficult political and economic conditions for years. After the war, the economic sanctions imposed by international powers and the earthquake that hit the country in 2023, the lack of essential goods, water and electricity has become a constant in the daily lives of Syrian citizens, causing suffering especially to the most vulnerable people.
Distribution of domestic batteries in Aleppo
To address one of these needs, the RISE program launched an initiative to support the elderly population of Aleppo: the installation of home batteries to ensure a safe and healthy living environment.
In fact, lack of lighting is one of the most common causes of accidents that negatively impact both the physical health of the elderly and their psychological well-being.
On April 23, the RISE program team began distributing and installing 25 batteries to elderly residents in Aleppo city.
Live more safely and peacefully
Mr. AB suffers from Parkinson’s disease, and his wife suffered a stroke a few years ago that limits her mobility. Because of this, they cannot work and depend on the help of the Church and other organizations to survive.
In their area, electricity is only available for two hours a day. For the rest of the day, Mr. AB and his wife remain in the dark, and at night they are exposed to the risk of falls.
On several occasions, his wife had accidents due to the unsafe conditions of their home and the lack of lighting.
Now, with the installation of the battery in their home, here in Aleppo, they live more peacefully and less exposed to the risk of getting hurt.
Naaim: “Thanks for the batteries”
Naaim lives in the old city of Aleppo. For him too, receiving the domestic battery was a big change in his daily life: “Public electricity only comes for two hours a day. We also pay to use the neighborhood generator, which gives us a few extra hours of power, but during the whole night we were in complete darkness. Now, with this battery, we feel safe .”
