A brand new dress

When a woman cannot afford to pay for a new dress made by Ruwaida, the seamstress does not hold back and significantly lowers the price. In her kingdom of needles and threads, reciprocity reigns.

Ruwaida loves sewing . She has always done it in her life and continues to do so even now that she is 42 years old. Since she has been living in Aleppo with some of her relatives – her mother, her sister, and her married brother’s family – the woman has struggled to make this passion of hers a source of income and after taking a course she started working with the sewing machine borrowed from her sister . They used to live in Khan Shaykhun, but this city was violently bombed during the Syrian civil war and they had to leave to survive.Seamstress Ruwaida in Aleppo supported by RestarT It is easy to understand the importance of that sewing machine: Ruwaida’s expectations were all focused there, on the possibility of earning the minimum to lead a dignified life. But her sister’s was an old and worn-out tool. The RestarT team came to her rescue, evaluating her small professional project and buying her a new sewing machine and other necessary materials. A room in the apartment in Aleppo has become the “workshop” of the seamstress Ruwaida and it is within these four walls that her very skilled hands have been repairing clothes for almost nine months. And they also create them! RestarT - Syria - the dressmaker RuwaidaTaking inspiration from the Internet, the woman updates herself on the latest fashion trends and offers her customers new models that are very popular. This is demonstrated by the increase in the number of dresses she sells. However, when someone shows up at her door who cannot afford to pay the full price for a repair or a new dress, Ruwaida does not back down. She does not care, the price may even be lowered, but all women have the right to wear a proper dress.
