The reciprocity that characterizes the action of the AMU, accompanies the protagonists of the projects in identifying and bringing out their potential of skills and talents, to contribute to the development of their community.
Samer is the director of the medical center in Homs for the “Seeds of Hope” program in Syria . Every day, in addition to assisting the patients who are part of the program, ensuring they have support to continue the necessary therapies, tests and analyses , Samer looks for other ways to help those who do not receive support from the program, involving family members and friends in the search for new funds, aimed at families in difficulty. Fadia and Eliana, who chose to support Samer in the search for new subsidies, say that at the beginning it was not easy and they were really discouraged, only Samer’s patience and faith convinced them not to stop just because some attempts had not been successful or because in one day they had collected little aid. “Let’s start and God will help us” Samer repeats to them . And so it was, they started by making their contribution and soon they received a significant donation which was followed by others until the proceeds were sufficient to support 20 families with chicken, coffee and other basic necessities plus a small sum of money.
The sincere gratitude of those who received that little support, the story of those who received help just when everything had ended, even the hope, the awareness that, as Samer says: “joy has entered those homes and those hearts”, have overcome all the initial doubts and difficulties of Fadia and Eliana.
With reciprocity… just start! All of us, with a small gesture, our availability, our enthusiasm in involving others, can start a circle of mutual solidarity to bring joy into the homes and hearts of those who live moments of difficulty, like the Syrian families exhausted by the consequences of a war.
