In Mexico, during Covid19, the project to support young people in the process of detoxing from drugs and alcohol continues.
In Mexico City, the shelters where young people follow their alcohol and drug detoxification program, live on spontaneous help from families and the local community. With the arrival of Covid19 and the economic crisis, this help has drastically reduced, putting at risk the important recovery work that these centers carry out in a country where addictions involve a high percentage of the population, especially young people. To cope with this reduction in help, the AMU has decided to provide food and basic necessities to 3 homes located in the western part of Mexico City and their 130 guests . Some of them, at the end of the detoxification program and as soon as the rules to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus allow it, will take part in the social and work reintegration project ” LiberarSé – Refuge of Hope “. The pandemic has highlighted how gestures of attention and solidarity generate many other actions of mutual sharing . And this is what happened this time too with one of the shelters, “ Sangue Nuovo ”, which, receiving various aids, decided to share the bread received from the local bakery with other homes, and the same was done by the “ Tornare alla vita ” home, which chose to share the surplus material for cleaning the rooms and for personal hygiene .
