This year a very special Run4Unity – Relay for Unity.

Last May 3rd some participants of the Living Peace project, connected from different parts of the world, have stretched out a real virtual rainbow of peace!
Distant, but united, We shared with photos and videos, our experiences and each other’s commitment to building peace, even in times of Corona Virus. With us there were a group of Young Ambassadors of Peace from 3 schools in Catania (IC Di Guardo-Quasimodo, IC Italo Calvino and Liceo Scientifico G. Galilei) and two young Ambassadors of Peace from Rimini, who are part of the Living Peace project, other ambassadors of peace from Jordan and for the 12 o’clock TimeOut we joined a family in Portugal and the coordinator of Living Peace in Congo! As always, it is the impressions and words of the boys that strike us the most and that underline the reciprocity, in giving and taking, that is generated in certain moments. Some high school kids wrote to us about how important it was “Hearing various testimonies made me understand that spreading peace is never enough.” For others, again: “It was a beautiful experience of sharing even with people I didn’t know. We shared our work, our feelings and our emotions during this bad period. Through our actions we are trying to help people who continue to remain alone like the elderly and work to defeat this virus. ” Even the middle school students were struck by the wealth generated by the exchange, in fact they wrote: “It was nice to interact with others who, despite speaking different languages and coming from different cultures, were able to listen to us and understand us. The message that this video conference conveyed to me is first of all that peace has many shades as we can all understand it and live it as we want, but above all that peace is a feeling too big and must be shared and lived with others by each of us making small gestures.” Getting to know each other, telling each other what they are doing and how they are experiencing this moment in different parts of the world has left a mark on these guys: “beautiful, because we understood that even in a global emergency we can give our contribution to find light and peace in so much darkness”.

Run4Unity 2020 really made us understand that to be united, to know and understand the other, not only physical presence is needed, but availability: to listen and be listened to, to know and be known, to talk about yourself and welcome the experiences of others. Even when a global pandemic disrupts our rhythms and habits!
