The “Chance for tomorrow” project dedicated to women and young people in the Shubra neighborhood in Cairo ended last September. We chose Azza’s story to thank you for your support over the years and tell you about some of the results achieved. “I live in Shubra al-Khaimah, I have 3 children, two girls and a boy, and I didn’t know about the project, but my husband did: he was filming a documentary on “Chance for tomorrow” and the activities he saw and the atmosphere he breathed really impressed him. So much so that he was the one who told me about the courses and insisted that I attend the center. I was a bit hesitant, at first I didn’t even understand why he pushed me to go out alone, on Fridays (our day of rest). I lost my mother when I was only seven years old, then my mother-in-law took her place. I dedicated my whole life to her, neglecting myself and, at times, even my husband and taking care of my children. After his death, we have become independent, we live in our own house and can enjoy some peace and quiet. Even though Friday is a holiday, to be at home and with family, I am now looking forward to it so I can take part in the project. The atmosphere is great and I often bring my children too, I felt like I was part of a family here, the people are nice and respectful and every individual is important. They are Muslims, they are Christians and there is no difference between us: mutual respect is the basis of relationships between people. Azza tells us what she learned from participating in the training courses. “For example, when they talked to us about married life, I thought back to my own and clearly saw where I could improve. This helped me a lot in my relationship with my husband and children. In terms of health, my information was very limited, but at the courses we talked about preservatives and other dangerous foods with carcinogenic substances. I learned to help my children eat healthily and to pass on valuable information to those around me. I am still at the beginning of the journey, but I am looking forward to Friday and encourage my relatives and acquaintances to join the “Chance for Tomorrow” program because everything that builds man contributes to his development and gives him happiness.” This Article appeared in AMU News “Rebuilding is regenerating – Year 2019 -3-4
