We all know how important it is to have access to education, but have you ever imagined what it means to go to a school without water or toilets? And what does it mean in the lives of children not having access to clean water?
Today, in the province of Ruyigi , in Burundi, one of the poorest countries in Africa, it is the youngest children who are responsible for fetching water from the rivers, early in the morning and several times a day, kilometers away from their homes. This commitment takes time away from their lives, very often they arrive at school already tired, they have difficulty following lessons and in the afternoon they cannot study. Furthermore, the water collected is not controlled, it contains a lot of debris and bacteria, bringing with it diseases and intestinal parasites.
Never before have we experienced that the right to education also includes the right to health.
For this reason, this year’s #TUTTIASCUOLA campaign is dedicated to the project “ Water, source of life and development in Ruyigi ” to bring drinking water to the children of the Nombe school and to install ecological latrines, in place of the earth and mud toilets used today.
Additionally, 691 families will have access to drinking water within 500 meters of their homes.
You too can support the #TUTTIASCUOLA campaign and the project “Water source of life and development in Ruyigi”.
Help us reduce the risk of disease and give back time to study and play for the children of Nombe, so they can develop their full potential.
