The Centre “Angle of Light” (in Spanish Rincón de Luz) located in Cochabamba Area 5, known for the high rates of poverty and crime, is almost an oasis in the desert. Here, from 2012, AMU has implemented the project “Education and work“.
Judging by the results achieved it is a real oasis, and not just an illusion. Francesco Marini of our AMU project area office, has anticipated for us some news, directly from Cochabamba, where he went for the final evaluation of the project.
«Thanks to this project, in partnership with the UNISOL Foundation and the AFN Association, the Centre is now a concrete reality that is a reference point for families of one of the city’s poorest neighbourhoods. It greets every day 60 children and young people providing them a meal, school integration services and various training activities.»
As always, the best result is the change that occurs in people’s lives and, consequently, in the life of the community…
È quasi un’oasi nel deserto il Centro “Angolo di Luce” (in spagnolo Rincón de Luz) situato a Cochabamba nell’area 5, nota per gli alti indici di povertà e criminalità. Qui, a partire dal 2012, l’AMU ha realizzato il progetto “Istruzione e lavoro”.
Un’oasi reale, e non un miraggio, a giudicare dai risultati raggiunti.
Direttamente da Cochabamba, dove si è recato per la valutazione conclusiva del progetto, Francesco Marini del nostro settore progetti ci ha anticipato qualche notizia.
«Grazie al progetto, realizzato in partenariato con la Fondazione UNISOL e l’associazione AFN, il Centro è oggi una realtà concreta che rappresenta un punto di riferimento per le famiglie di uno dei quartieri più poveri della città. Accoglie ogni giorno 60 bambini e ragazzi garantendo loro un pasto, un servizio di integrazione scolastica e svariate attività di formazione.»
Come sempre, il risultato più bello è il cambiamento che si verifica nella vita delle persone e, di conseguenza, nella vita delle comunità.
«Miriam is 19 and has attended the Center Rincón de Luz since childhood. Thanks to the Centre she has finished high school ranking as the best pupil in the whole city of Cochabamba. For this reason she received a cash prize and the opportunity to enrol in an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering with no need to take the entrance examination. Today she attends the second year of university and is exceeding all examinations with full marks.»
«Santusa was in charge of the cleaning service in the Rincón de Luz Centre where she was already sending her two children. She seized the opportunity to attend one of the sewing classes organized for the mothers of the young students at the Centre. Given her skills, she obtained a scholarship by the project to attend a tailoring course in Cochabamba.
Today Santusa works as a sewing teacher in the Rincón de Luz centre and as a seamstress for the people of the neighbourhood. Thanks to her wages her family could rent a bigger apartment with a room for the children. Thanks to project Santusa could strengthen her self-esteem abuild on her hidden qualities.»
«Miriam (foto sopra) è una ragazza di 19 anni che fin da piccola ha frequentato il Centro Rincón de Luz. Grazie al Centro Miriam ha terminato la scuola superiore classificandosi come miglior alunna di tutta la città di Cochabamba. Per questo ha ottenuto un premio in denaro e la possibilità di iscriversi al corso di laurea in ingegneria industriale senza bisogno di sostenere l’esame di accesso. Oggi frequenta il II anno di università e sta superando a pieni voti tutti gli esami.»
«Santusa (foto a lato) si occupava delle pulizie del centro Rincón de Luz dove già mandava i suoi due figli. Ha colto l’opportunità di frequentare uno dei corsi di cucito organizzato per le madri dei piccoli studenti. Date le sue capacità, ha ottenuto dal progetto una borsa di studio per frequentare un corso di sartoria a Cochabamba.
Oggi Santusa lavora come insegnante di cucito nel centro Rincón de Luz e come sarta per le persone del quartiere. Grazie al suo salario la sua famiglia ha potuto affittare un appartamento più grande con una stanza per i figli. Grazie al progetto Santusa ha potuto rafforzare la propria autostima e mettere a frutto le proprie qualità nascoste.»
